Overview
Ultrasound Whole Abdomen, sometimes also called Ultrasonography, is a radiology test that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of the body structure. Ultrasound whole abdomen is used to check the major organs in the abdominal cavity. Abdominal Ultrasounds help doctors see the images of the organs and structures. Ultrasound is safe and painless and does not use ionizing radiation.
Female sonographers play a vital role in providing care for female patients. They are often the ones who perform diagnostic exams on pregnant women, providing essential information about the health of both mother and child. Female sonographers also play an important role in breast cancer screenings. They are often able to provide more accurate results than their male counterparts, due to their intimate knowledge of breast anatomy.

The sonography involves the use of a transducer. The transducer shaped like a wand, primarily sends high-frequency sound waves into the body and also in turn picks up the responding signal. This procedure begins with the doctor having to apply a gel to the abdominal area of the patient before using the transducer over it. The gel facilitates and improves the sound waves to pass through the abdomen more efficiently by removing any small pockets of air that may interfere with the procedure. The doctor then places the transducer on the abdomen and moves it around the area to create a better image of the abdomen. The transducer may press lightly on the abdomen, but the procedure should not feel uncomfortable. All along, the patient is able to view the insides on the screen before him/her. The water-based gel is then wiped off the patient’s abdomen once the procedure is completed.
Whole abdomen
Most doctors recommend an abdominal ultrasound mainly to diagnose the cause of abdominal pain or bloating. Full abdomen sonography evaluates abdominal organs like the appendix, stomach, intestines, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys and urinary bladder. It can help check for any kidney stones, liver disease, tumors, and many other conditions. In addition to the condition of the organs, ultrasound imaging of the abdomen is also used to determine tissues, blood vessels, and abnormal growths.
